Taco Casserole


1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 C. taco sauce (mild, medium or hot...your choice)
3/4 C. water
1 can diced green chilis (optional)
1 package of taco seasoning mix
1 package of white or yellow taco shells, broken and divided
2 C. mild cheddar cheese, shredded and divided


Preheat oven to 375º. Grease a 11x7 baking dish.
Cook beef and onion till beef is browned, drain.
Stir in taco sauce, water, chilis and seasoning mix. Cook over low heat 3-4 minutes.
Layer half of the broken taco shells on bottom of prepared baking dish. Cover with half of the meat mixture and sprinkle with 1 C of cheese. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
Can garnish after baking with the following: chopped tomatoes, sliced green onions, black olives, sour cream and chopped jalepenos.
